Sleep 2016 – The Hotel Design Event
‘The two-day event – taking place at London’s Business Design Centre on 22 to 23 November 2016 – features debates, installations, exhibitions and networking opportunities.’ – Dezeen
I had an amazing opportunity to attend Sleep at the end of 2016, specifically for interior design hospitality. As you may be able to tell from the photos there were lots of new materials, indoor/outdoor furniture, lighting, linens, hardware, accessories, all the materials that can possibly create a hotel under one roof.
Whilst thinking outside the box for the model hotel suites –
‘It will include the Science of Tribes Sleep Set competition, which asked five creative studios to design a guest room for a group of people defined by shared values, lifestyles and aesthetic preferences.
The participants – London offices Aukett Swanke, Gensler and Studio Proof, Tokyo-based Mitsui Designtec, and WOW Architects from Singapore – will present their concepts to a panel of judges and a conference audience.’ – Dezeen
WOW Architects was particularly amazing as the queen size bed hung above us from the ceiling!

After scrolling through pinterest/instagram/flickr there have been numerous trends that keep catching my eye for 2017, so I’ve rounded up my 5 favorite interior trends for January, as follows;
Over sized Round Mirrors
Usually plain covering a neutral wall colour, these mirrors create a focal point in a transition space, helping the illusion of a larger room.
Jewel Tones
Again the block jewel tones work as focal points in a neutrally decorated room, contrasting the soft fabric with accompanying furniture in cool shades, hard materials & graphic prints.
Indoor plants
A beautiful feature that grows and changes seasonally – a way to introduce colour into spaces. Easily re-positioned, easy to maintain, array of patterns, textures, colours & sizes. Possibilities of decorating with plants is nearly endless.
Cork
Economically viable, new cork bark gets harvested each year, without having to cut down the tree, leaving it to re-grow its bark for future use. Used as a wall covering or for many home accessories it is malleable & versatile for use in the home, whilst also being recyclable & reusable.
Home Story
70’s
Ercol & G Plan furniture are my inspirations for this trend even though they were established previous to the 1970’s, they have continuously created iconic home furnishings that have been synonymous with that decade. The third image is of artists Linda & John Meyer’s house, showing their take on how the 70’s interior played with colour & textures.
